scientific vs. engineering notation
Scientific Notation is a system where there is one digit to the right of the decimal place, and the rest are rounded and represented by ten to the power of the number of decimal places moved.
Engineering Notation is similar to scientific notation, but prefixes representing powers that are multiples of three are used instead of the times ten. A number is in engineering notation when it is between one (inclusive) and one thousand (exclusive).
